We’re Mark and Alicia Tezel—lifelong explorers, proud parents and grandparents, and now full-time adventurers in retirement.

Mark was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and earned his degree in Theology from Texas Lutheran College (now Texas Lutheran University). His deep love for nature and history led to a remarkable career spanning over 35 years with the National Park Service. His work took him to more than half of the units in the National Park System, shaping a lifelong passion for conservation, storytelling, and the beauty of public lands.

Alicia was born in Lima, Peru, and moved to Texas to pursue her education. She attended the University of Texas for her undergraduate studies and earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. As a dedicated pediatric emergency physician, she later helped found Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care, where she served as Chief Medical Officer until her retirement at the end of 2024.

Together, we’ve raised four wonderful children (and now enjoy the company of their four amazing spouses and four energetic grandchildren!). Travel has always been a shared joy in our lives—whether hiking through national parks, exploring new cultures, or simply hitting the road with a map and a sense of wonder.

Now retired, we’re embracing the freedom to explore even more of the world—and we’re thrilled to share our journey with you here on Tezels on the Road.
